About the Lord Derby Eland (Taurotragus derbianus gigas)

The Lord Derby Eland is native central half of Africa, and is technically listed as the largest species in the antelope family. The eland has a black mane which flows along the back of it's neck, as well as a thick coat which is tan in color, often greying along the shoulders as the animal matures. Both the male and female eland grow horns at the back of the head that rise with a slight twist at the tip. Males tend to be larger in size, grow larger horns, and also grow a large fold of loose skin that hangs beneath the neck, dubbed the 'dewlap'.
