Animal description

About the Salts Phillips Dik-Dik (Madoqua saltiana phillipsi)

The Salt's (Phillips) dik-dik is a small antelope species found throughout the savanna and bushland areas of southern and eastern Africa. They are relatively small, while the females are generally a bit larger than the males. They are typically light brown in color, and the males grow small "spike" horns on the tops of their heads, usually only a few inches long. Dik-dik also has strikingly large, dark eyes, which starkly contrast their light brown coloration. The dik-dik gets its namesake from a "tik or ticking" sound that the female makes when communicating with others of its species.
