About the Longnose Gar (Lepisosteus osseus)

Also known as the "needlenose gar", this prehistoric looking fish is found through freshwater areas in North and Central America. The gar prefers secluded areas beneath the water, among thick vegetation and fallen trees and stumps. The gar feeds primarily on smaller fish, crayfish and insects, and appear green in coloration, with a blue-grey speckling along their sides.
