About the Beaver (Castor canadensis)

The beaver is a large, semi-aquatic rodent that can be found in North America and northern Europe. These herbavores are nocturnal, and infamous for building dams in rivers and streams in order to create still bodies of water for their homes. The beaver is probably most well-known (and instantly recognized) for its paddle-shaped tail. They use these leather-y tails for swimming, as well as slapping against the surface of water, serving as a warning to predators and fellow beavers alike.
