About the Bighorn Sheep (Ovis canadensis canadensis)
The Bighorn Sheep is found throughout most of western North America, and as far north as Canada and Alaska. They are named after their large, backward curving horns, which will complete a full curl forward once the males have reached complete maturity. Larger males, with full curls extending forward past their eyes, will often 'broom' or grind their horn tips shorter in order to prevent them from blocking their peripheral vision. Bighorn males typically grow to over 250 lbs, with their massive horns weighing in at 25 lbs alone. Their hair coloration is often chocolate to brown-grey with a creamy white colored rump.
