About the Blue Marlin (Makaira nigricans)

The Blue Marlin has two subspecies, the Atlantic blue marlin, and the Indo-Pacific Marlin. The Marlin is also known as the sailfish. The Atlantic blue marlin is found in the Atlantic ocean, and the Indo-Pacific marlin is found in the Pacific ocean. They are easily identifiable by the large bill they use to stun, injure, and kill small fish near the surface. Females can weigh up to four times as much as males. Males typically rarely get heavier than 350 pounds, while females can get to 1,800 pounds! They can also reach lengths of up to 16 feet!
