About the Muskrat (Ondatra zibethicus)

The muskrat is a medium sized, semi-aquatic rodent native to North America and can found in a wide variety of wetland habitats all over the world. The muskrat is typically about 15-30 inches long, though half of that measurement is it's tail. It's fur is medium to dark brown in color (sometimes jet-black), though the underbelly is lighter, often grey. The fur itself is similar to that of an otter, while their biology has similarities to seals or whales, allowing them to swim submerged underwater for upwards of 15-17minutes, where they hunt for small fish, crayfish and other delicious bottom feeders.
