About the African Sable (Hippotragus Niger)
The African Sable is an antelope species native to the southernmost parts of Africa. Their habitats are diverse, ranging from savannas and grasslands, to wooded marshes, where they eat most grass and vegetation. The Sable can grow to nearly 600 lbs, and sports to large, backward curving horns, and a beard along it’s neck and chin. They usually appear almost entirely black in color, with a cream markings on their chin and underbelly. When a Sable herd gets too large, the alpha will break off and create a splinter herd.
