About the Glacier Bear (Ursus americanus emmonsii)

Glacier bears are one of the rarest bears in the world. While technically a black bear the coloration is extrodinaarily rare. Typically found in south-east Alaska these bears are often called blue bears for the mixture of blonde, silver-blue and grey highlights which give the bear a blue coloration.  Like other black bears the Males typically weigh in around 300 lbs, while females are usually closer to half that. Weight fluctuates depending on the season, and black bear usually weight 30% more just before their winter hibernation.
