About the Elk (Cervus canadensis)

The Elk (or Wapiti) is one of the largest mammals of North America, with subspecies also found in Asia. Elk are among the largest of all deer species, with males reaching nearly 1200 pounds and females 600 pounds. Male elk grow very large antlers that typically have 10 (5x5) to 12 (6x6) points. Elk prefer forests and grasslands for habitat, dieting on plants, leaves and grasses to fill their four chamber ruminant stomachs.
