About the Black Bear (Ursus Americanus)

Black Bears are North America's most common and familiar type of bear. Typically found in wooded areas, black bears are native to North America, though most can be found in Canada and the northern United States. The black bear's diet consists mainly of fruit, plants, and insects, though they also eat fish and small mammals. As the name implies, most of these bears are completely black in color, although some can actually appear cinnamon in color. Males typically weight in around 300 lbs, while females are usually closer to half that. Weight fluctuates depending on the season, and black bear usually weighs 30% more just before their winter hibernation.

About the Grizzly Bear (Ursus arctos horribilis)

The legendary Grizzly Bear is a smaller sub-species of the brown bear, getting their name from the appearance of the grizzled greyish tips at the end of their brown fur. Unlike the brown bear, the Grizzly is only found in the northernmost wooded or hilly areas of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho as well as the Yukon territories, British Columbia as well as non-coastal regions of Alaska. Their diet and behavior are much the same as the brown bear, though a coastal Grizzly on a steady diet of salmon can weigh upwards of 1,500 lbs, whereas a large inland Grizzly is 500-600 pounds.
