Animal description

About the Natal Red Duiker (Cephalophus natalensis)

The Natal Red Duiker is native to central to southern Africa, where they inhabit coastal and riverine forests. Their primary source of food is leaves, twigs, and low-hanging fruits. They stand nearly 15in tall and weigh an average of 33 lbs. They have a beautiful chestnut coat with their legs and faces being slightly darker with a light grey stripe down the neck. Interestingly enough the female duiker is often larger than the male. These animals have the ability to stand on their hind feet to feed on the low-hanging fruit and the occasional hanging moss.
