Description of Taxidermy For Sale

This is a good standing Willow Ptarmigan taxidermy mount. This bird has very good chest, wing and head feathers, but does have a few missing feathers in the middle of the back. The missing back feathers cannot be seen when the bird is placed at eye level on a mantle or shelf for display (great value for this display method), but would be seen on a low coffee or end table. This bird has great coloration and good taxidermy quality, earning our Fair Plus™ overall rating because of the missing back feathers (would likely be rated at Nice Plus™ if all feathers were present...). All applicable dimensions are included to help ensure this item will fit within your intended display space.

- This item comes on a wood base for display.

- Great for the mantle, shelf, ledge, table, counter top, etc...

About the Willow Ptarmigan (Lagopus lagopus)

Found throughout the tundra of North America, the Willow Ptarmigan is a beautiful gamebird that somewhat resembles a chicken. Their winter plummage is striking, with most of their winter plumage turning snow white, which aids in camoflage from predators during winter months. The chest of the Willow is often a deep auburn red and brown. The face of the willow is typically this same dark auburn or black, with an accent of white over the head, and a striking bright red highlight under each marble eye. During the summer, the willow's plummage almost entirely changes to a light brown, to better blend in with the snowless environment. The Willow is most often distinguished from the Rock Ptarmigan by the lack of black coloration between the eye and beak, as well as a slightly larger body size.
