About the Wiper (Morone saxatilis x Morone chrysops)

The Wiper is a hybrid crossover of white bass and striped bass. The identifying characteristic of the fish is the broken striping running the ventral side of the fish. Unlike most hybrid species, the Wiper is capable of reproducing and having viable offspring. However, it cannot breed with another Wiper it has to back breed with one of its parent species, that being the White Bass or Striped Bass. The Wiper is a very tolerant species of many conditions, making it better suited for poor water qualities found in ponds or low oxygen streams and rivers. This particular fish is targeted by recreational anglers because of its aggressive feeding habits, making it a fun fish to catch.
